Join us...

Durham University Concert Band is open to every registered student at Durham University (members of staff please contact us to enquire). Most people join at the start of the year by signing up at Fresher’s Fair and then coming to the first rehearsal. However, we are more than happy to welcome new members at any time in the year so if you're interested, send us an email.

There are no auditions. We welcome existing  musicians of all abilities.

Rehearsals are every Sunday from 2:00pm - 4:30pm in the Music Department on Palace Green during term time.

Be sure to join our Facebook group for more information: Durham University Concert Band - Official Group.

Membership

Membership costs £8 for one year, or £20 for life membership (whole time at Durham University).

These costs go towards concert venue hire, buying/borrowing new music as well as squash and biscuits for rehearsals - you'll find you get your money’s worth very quickly!

We don't ask for membership to be paid until three or four rehearsals into the first term to give you a chance to see whether would like to join permanently.

Instruments

As a concert band, we play music that usually has parts for the following instruments:

-Brass  - horn, trumpet, trombone, baritone, euphonium, tuba

-Woodwind – flute, piccolo, oboe, clarinet (bass & alto), saxophone (soprano, alto, tenor, baritone), bassoon

-Percussion (drum kits, auxiliary percussion, timpani and mallet percussion provided)

N.B. Unfortunately the Music Department does not offer storage for large instruments.

We are always happy to have suggestions from soloists for concerti and other pieces arranged for solo instruments and ensemble. Please contact us, and depending on feasibility and suitability we might be able to purchase/borrow an arranged version of some standard orchestral concerti.
